Mirakel

Seedlings in flower after aprox.8 month / Frøplanter i blomst efter ca.8 måneder (AUGUST 2008)

This year I tried sowing rhododendron seeds for the second time (first time were a disaster) .I’m very much a beginner both with rhododendrons and gardening, but seeing the small seeds germinate, and grow into small plants has been absolutely trilling. One of the seed lots. Is from the seed list from the Danish Chapter of ARS no: RF 256/07 - R. luteum CW. From Kulakkaya, Turkey –collected by Hans Eiberg. (The same seeds have been distributed from ARS 2008 as no: 162) It was sown 31st of December 2007 in brown peat with perlite 70-30.And planted outside in the mid of May 2008 in my garden in Hvidovre, Copenhagen -Denmark. It has been growing very fine and today I have 58 healthy plants between 5 to 20 cm. Now the exciting thing is that the 10th. Of august 2008. I discovered a small pale yellow flower on one of the plants. The plant is only 9 cm. flowering only approx., 8 month after sowing. For the professional nursery people this might be a “normal” thing. But for a beginner (me) this I absolutely fantastic. In short I have been told that the genetic explanation to my miracle is that there has been a development error and got to do with an error in the regulation of a gene. The rest of explanations I will leave to those that have the knowledge and are capable of explaining… If there is anyone with same experience with this seed number I would be happy to receive an e-mail:mikkel-massage@hotmail.com
If there is anyone out there that haven’t tried sowing rhododendrons or other plants I can recommend it. Watching the small plants slowly growing into something “unknown” It’s fantastic!

Sat i bænk udendørs midt i maj måned.

Beautiful pictures! I live in the Kingdom of Rhododendrons - they are everywhere here. But I trust you - nothing can be more rewarding than watching your own plant growing. Also, I was amazed to see one baby-plant flowering! Little miracle.
Good luck!
